  4. CONTENTS

  6.     The file:

  8.     samba-1.9.15p8-irix.tardist
  9.  
  10.     contains  an SGI inst image of SAMBA 1.9.15 patch level 8.  Besides the
  11.     fact that you can install it like any other SGI software, it  has  been
  12.     updated to support browsing of IRIX "LP" printers, making it especially
  13.     nice  for  using  printers  connected to your SGI workstation or server
  14.     from your PC.

  16.     The installation image is usable on IRIX 5.2, 5.3, 6.0.x, and 6.1.

  19. INSTALLATION
  20.  
  21.     If you are not using the SGI version of Netscape and tardist, grab the
  22.     "samba-1.9.15p8-irix.tardist" file and run the following  commands  as
  23.     super-user (root):
  24.  
  25.         # tar xf samba-1.9.15p8-irix.tardist [ENTER]
  26.         # inst -f . [ENTER]
  27.         inst> go [ENTER]
  28.         inst> quit [ENTER]

  30.     All  files  except  for the man pages and startup script are installed
  31.     under /usr/local/samba.

  34. SETUP
  35.  
  36.     The  default setup file included with the distribution provides brows-
  37.     able home directories and printers from your server.  If you  need  to
  38.     restrict  access for some reason, consult the smb.conf(5) man page and
  39.     update the /usr/local/samba/lib/smb.conf file to your needs.

  41.     Once you have everything the way you want, type:

  43.         # /etc/init.d/samba start [ENTER]
  44.  
  45.     to  start  the  server  processes.  The startup script starts both the
  46.     NetBIOS  and  SMB  servers.   The  script  is  also  linked  into  the
  47.     /etc/rc0.d  and  /etc/rc2.d directories for automatic startup/shutdown
  48.     with the system.

  50.     When  you  add  printers through the Windows network browser ("Network
  51.     Neighborhood" for '95 users), use the specific driver for that printer.
  52.     The smb.conf file is setup to print jobs directly with no file conver-
  53.     sions (the "-oraw" option to the lp command).

  58.     All of the SAMBA software is covered by the GNU General Public License
  59.     and is available freely.  Feel free to make copies of this inst  image
  60.     of  SAMBA  available  anywhere you like.  For more information consult
